“A” is for Articulate
In life, people can’t deny that communication is one of the most important aspects to success. However, even deeper than just the broad idea of “communication” is the ability to articulate your ideas and thoughts to others. Also, learning or figuring out what people are saying depends on how they again “articulate” the ideas to you.
To articulate ideas as clearly as possible, you need a broad set of “tools” or resources to communicate those ideas. And guess what? What your English teacher said and all the academic influences you’ve had in life have told you is right: you must study vocabulary!
Like the aforementioned, very few people can deny that it’s important to be able to communicate and if you want to be a better communicator, learn more vocabulary. Regardless of what age you are at, build on the base that you have now. Learn a word a day. Be more ambitious and learn 5! Read the New York Times on a regular basis and look up the words you don’t know. I’m sure there will be a good number of them you won’t know.
Aren’t there many times where you start thinking “What’s the word for…???” Or “how do I say XYZ in a more intelligent manner?” And lastly, “What’s a good word for blah, blah, blah?” Why do you think we have words like “blah” or “etc” in the English language? It’s because people “gave up.” Well, we at SanLi believe you should NOT give up and definitely encourage you to keep this well known idea, but rarely practiced task: again, study your vocabulary!
We also practice what we preach. We use Quizlet to guide many of our students and have found great lists for our students to study for the SAT, SSAT and more.
We’ll share some great ideas and resources moving forward in continuing to build your vocabulary. So, look out for those by clicking on the tag “vocabulary” off to the side.
If you do, you won’t regret it. We promise you that!
